As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen the fight against tuberculosis (TB) in Zanzibar, we recently conducted a two-day training session for Community Health Workers (CHWs), who will serve as focal persons in the implementation of the TB program. This training, facilitated by the Zana Project team in collaboration with the Ministry of Health's TB team, focused on capacity building, equipping CHWs with the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively support the program.
The training covered a range of topics, including TB contact investigation, patient education, and strategies to enhance treatment adherence within the community. By empowering CHWs, we aim to create a robust network of local health advocates who can lead the charge in TB prevention and control at the grassroots level.
The role of CHWs is pivotal in our strategy, as they are often the first point of contact within the community. Their ability to communicate effectively and provide ongoing support to TB patients is crucial for the success of this initiative.
We extend our gratitude to USAID and TIFA for their generous sponsorship of this project. Their support has been instrumental in enabling us to build a stronger, more resilient healthcare framework in Zanzibar, one that is capable of addressing TB challenges with renewed vigor and determination.
